Auvers-sur-Oise 奧維

L' Eglise Posted by Picasa

Actually, Van Gogh moved to Auvers-sur-Oise 2 months before he died in 1890. He painted quite a few great paintings during his short stay in Auvers-sur-Oise and because of him, Auvers-sur-Oise became unique and famous. I went to this little suburb town twice in order to experience and trace back the journey of Van Gogh by the time he was there. What you could see in Auvers-sur-Oise are about Van Gogh and impressionism. Chateau d'Auvers has the exhibition about the history of impressionism. Auberge Ravoux was a hotel where Van Gogh stayed before and it become a restaurant and tourists/fans could still take a look at the room of Van Gogh to know more about the life of this great artist in Auvers-sur-Oise.

L'Eglise was built in 12-13 century and it could be seen in Van Gogh's painting. However, the real colour of this church is different from what we could see in Van Gogh's painting. In addition, what we see in the painting is the back of the church. I tried to imagine the feeling while Van Gogh was painting this church while I was sitting at the stairs towards to it. The painting looks so peaceful and so warm which I could not believe and understand that Van Gogh would choose to commit suicide. However, maybe because of that, I felt a bit sorrow while walking all the way to the wheatfields.

The wheatfield in Van Gogh's painting...

Wheatfields... Posted by Picasa

My second motivation of visiting France again was this—the wheatfields in Van Gogh's painting. I am not a super fan of Van Gogh, however, I do like and I am touched by some of his paintings. Therefore, I already decided to visit it when I noticed that the famous painting about wheatfields by Van Gogh is located in a suburb area of Pairs.

The wheatfields is behind the church. Can you imagine the skinny and depressed Van Gogh walking along the country road to wheatfileds and painting there for hours? The wheatfields are so huge and wide that I felt that I was so small while standing in the middle of it. What was the thinking across to Van Gogh's mind when he painted "wheatfield with crows"? The golden yellow wheatfields is completely different from the one we see in that painting which is messy and grieving. Maybe Van Gogh already told us why he ended his own life that way in this last paining. However, the wheatfileds seemed to be covered some sadness while looking at it with my own eyes now.
